This policy explains how Westminster & City of London Greens (the “Party”) collects, uses and protects your personal data, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Who we are

Westminster & City of London Greens is a local branch of the Green Party of England and Wales, run by local volunteers. We are the data controller for the personal data we collect on this website. You can contact us about your data at westminsterandcolgreenparty@gmail.com.

What we collect

We only collect the minimum personal data needed for each purpose:

• Petition signatures: your first and last name, email address and postcode.
• Volunteer / get involved forms: your name, contact details (email, phone, postcode), your areas of interest, availability and any message you choose to send. These are joined at the same time we collect them and from the same form.
• Newsletter opt-in: your email address when you explicitly ask to receive update emails.

How we use your data

• To record and verify petition signatures and show the number of signatures.
• To contact volunteers about the activities they have offered to help with.
• To send you campaign updates only if you have opted in, and to allow you to unsubscribe at any time.

Lawful basis for processing

We process your data lawfully under the UK GDPR:

• Consent — when you sign a petition and confirm your consent, and when you sign up to our newsletter opt-in.
• Legitimate interests — for volunteering enquiries, to respond to your message and organise local activities.
• Legal obligation — where electoral law requires us to record or verify donations or signatures.

Cookies

We do not use tracking or advertising cookies and we do not use analytics that identify you. A small, strictly necessary session cookie is used to keep you logged in to the admin area and to protect the forms on this website. Under PECR, consent is not required for this strictly necessary cookie.

How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, and no longer than required by law. Petition signatures and volunteering details are reviewed regularly and deleted once no longer needed.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Ask us to delete your data (the “right to erasure”).
• Object to or restrict how we process your data.
• Withdraw consent at any time.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Only authorised volunteers can access the admin area.
